Summer Learning Journey Day 3 Activity 2

Activity 2: Defying the Odds [4 points]
LeBron James is one of the most famous professional basketball players in the world. He currently plays in the NBA (National Basketball Association) for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has won numerous awards over the years, helping his teams win many important games.
Steven Adams also plays in the NBA, but unlike LeBron, Steven comes from Rotorua, New Zealand and is the half-brother of Olympic gold medalist Valerie Adams. That’s a pretty cool family connection, isn’t it?! Steven Adams currently lives in the United States and plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team.
Despite being born in different countries, these two incredible basketballers have a number of similarities. Both men came from humble beginnings. Neither of their families had a lot of money, and neither man grew up with a father at home. Even though they faced challenges, they were able to overcome them. Both men are examples of what is possible when you work hard and believe in yourself.

BasketBall Player I would interview: Lebron James
Questions I would ask:
1:Why did you leave Miami Heat and went and played for Cleveland Cavaliers
What I found: "I left because after losing the championship with Cleveland I felt that I needed to join a new team"
2.  Why did you leave Miami Heat to go play for the Los Angeles Lakers
What I found:  James famously said he was leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers to, "take his talents to South Beach and join the Miami"
3. Mr. James, have you changed much over the years?

What I found: I hate it when people say you've changed, but of course, I've changed. It’s only growth; it's not a negative thing. I've got two kids, I've got responsibilities now, of course, I've changed. It comes with growth. If you haven't changed, that's the problem.

4. They call you King James, does that make you feel quite confident in your own abilities?
What I found You have to because I've been doing it and I’ve been successful at it.
5. Eight out of ten professional soccer players end up broke at the end of their careers. Do you worry that your money could all just disappear one day?
What I found: No, I don't think so. I've set myself up for life and we learn more and more how to make sure we're set for the rest of our lives. I never worry that everything could wash away now. I stay humble because tomorrow isn’t promised and you never know what may happen, but I'm in a position right now where myself, my friends, my family – we're set up for the rest of our lives.

  1. Hi Thomas, Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani again commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. I really like the post you shared about two very different sports stars - and I learnt something new too! Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!
