Winter learning Journey

Activity 1:  Go to the Tourism New Zealand website and click on the ‘Facts - New Zealand People’ tab. Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts must be written in your own words. Do not simply copy and paste the facts from the website☺.
Fact number one
Many new Zealanders have a really really strong passion for outdoors and for that reason that's why we have lots of  visitors and also because  they love  doing outdoors activities.

Fact number 2
The most popular sport in new Zealand is ruby.New Zealand's team has recently been winning the world cup and also the other fact is that the sport has a public school beginning in England, New Zealand.

Fact Number 3:
The past four years ago Christopher Columbus and also the other people from Europe where very scared that they were going to fall from the edge of the word and what made me more surprise were that they were Maori people that sailed  thousand of miles to the pacific ocean.

  2. Kia ora Thomas,

Welcome to the Winter Learning Journey programme! We are so excited to see that you have joined the journey this holiday. We really hope that you enjoyed learning a little bit more about New Zealand for this first activity.

Like you, I was surprised to read that the European explorers believed that the world was flat and that they would fall 'off' the edge if they travelled too far south. Given what we now know about the world, it is pretty shocking to think that they could have been so confused/wrong! Fortunately, the brave Maori explorers ventured far enough south in their wakas that they found New Zealand and settled it for us. I wonder what it was like when the first settlers arrived...

I hope that you will continue to blog with us and learn more about the first settlers, the current population and all of the fabulous things to see and do here in NZ!

    Cheers,
    Rachel
